Now is the time of the year to prune your roses to prevent wind rock.
Roses are sensitive to wind rock. It disturbs their roots which can either kill the plant or damage parts of it.
The hairs on the root which collect moisture and nutrients, are prevented from carrying out this function if they become damaged.
Reduce the height of your roses in late autumn or early winter as shown in the photo. It’s preferable to cut back to a bud. This is not essential however, as main pruning will take place in spring.
